Hello!

A notice went out today sharing information about our Young Entrepreneur fair happening in April. Please review it and discuss options that would work well for your child.

In language arts we finished off our novel study. I have uploaded the chapters to our Google classroom, if you missed any. The students were pretty excited about how the puzzle ended up being solved.

In math we learned about perimeter and area. With perimeter we add up all the sides. With area we multiply the length side by the base side.

In social studies we powered through and researched 3 of our timeline posts. Some students even completed their forth post.

In science we reviewed and took our final test on the human body organ systems. Students did pretty well,  with only some showing confusion.

Next week we will review french and take a speaking test. Learn how to find area and perimeter with missing information.  Write up a synopsis about out novel study. Type up our tineline posts for social studies.  We will also choose our product for the young entrepreneur fair. Going to be a busy week.

Have a good weekend, and see you next week.

Hello!

We had our first trip to Spencer this week, to check out last their band program. Those interested should sign up soon.

In math this week we looked at converting units of measurement, so cm to m, and mm to cm, etc.

In language arts we have been moving along with our novel study.  We are up to chapter 30, and they are uploaded to our Google Classroom, for those who missed some days.

In social studies we started our new unit, making a timeline about Canada. Groups started researching specific areas of our countries history: residential school, provinces, war/disaster, Canadian identity, etc. They then chose 2 to 3 for next week, which they will research further.

We worked on the nervous system and urinary system in science this week. We learned that the central nervous system (brain and spine) send eletric pulses through the cells in our body to make it act. With the urinary system, we learned the kidneys clean and filter blood to make urea, which gets turned into urine, travels through the ureter to the bladder, then out the urethra.

We also finished off our brochures showcasing Le Carnival de Quebec.

Next week we will learn about perimeter and area of rectangles in math, listen to more of our chapters with our novel study, review the human body and take a final test, and start researching our timeline posts. Let’s see if we can jam it all in 4 days.

Have a good long weekend, see you Tuesday.

Hello!

An interesting couple of days we have had with the snow. It was tricky, but we managed to stay up to date with our work, for those who attended by the end of the week.

In math this week we reviewed our multiplication and division strategies, and took a final test. Most students have a good grasp of our classroom strategies, where some students recognize what they need to keep working on.

In science we learned about the skeletal and muscular system. Some of us were even  able to create robot hands resembling our own.

In social studies we reviewed our natural resources with a game of jeopardy, and took a final rest. Most did well, with some a little still confused in certain areas.

In language arts we have started a new novel study called ‘Escape Mr. Lemoncello’s Library’. We managed to get through 18 chapters this week,  a good chunk done. We will see who is the first to escape, as more clues are revealed.

Next week we will start our Canadian timeline unit in social studies, measurement in math, the nervous system and urinary system in science, more of of novel study, and make a brochure to show off Le Carnival de Quebec.

Have a good weekend, and see you Monday.

Hello!

We spent part of this week learning about lunar new year, the year of the snake. We learned different ways to say happy new year, and learned about the 12 animals.

In math this week we looked at long division. The steps included divide, multiply, subtract,  and bring down. Most of the class got this, but some seem to feel stuck after a step or two. Keep up the practice to get better.

In language arts we typed up our final copy of our Secret Rules story to display in the hallway and put in our book. I worked with a few students and some of the stories are pretty entertaining.

In social studies we wrote an essay about the benefits and controversies of a natural resource in BC: oil pipelines, clear cutting, fish hatcheries, or mining. We also put all of our projects together into a booklet.

In science we learned how the respiratory system works, where the diaphragm contracts to breath oxygen in through the mouth, down the trachea, through the bronchials of the lungs, to the alveoli, where it trades O2 for CO2, and then the CO2 reverses the process back out the mouth.

We also learned about the circulatory system, where red blood cells pick up the oxygen from the lungs,  travel to the heart, and are pumped throughout the body through arteries. When the O2 red blood cells reach their destination, it trades O2 for CO2 through small blood vessels called capillaries. Now the red blood cells carry the CO2 blood back to the heart through veins. The heart pumps it back to the lungs,  and the CO2 leaves the body. We experimented with different levels of activities to see if our blood beats faster, measuring the rate.

In french we learned about Le Carnival de Quebec. We took notes about the festival and will be making a brochure to show off the event.

We also finished up our art project from last week, mosaic winter.

Have a good weekend, and we will see if I see you Monday, who knows about the upcoming snow.
