Hello!

Hope everyone had a good long weekend.

In math we reviewed fraction and decimals,  and took a final test on it. Gabe me a good picture of where we are at, especially with report cards coming up.

In language arts we learned about onomatopoeia,  and how to add descripive sounds to our poems. We also finished off book 2 of our novel study, and discussed it with our book groups on Friday.

In social studies we finished off our family heritage country booklets. Most did really well with the projects, though some had a little too much copy and paste.

In science we reviewed and took our rock cycle quiz. Most seemed to do well with it.

In French we worked on our All About Me french project.  Students have been gathering information these last couple of weeks about our preferences, and finally created their Tout Sur Moi.

Next week we review all of our math concepts this year and take a final test, so it’ll be the last chance to show me what they know. We will type up some of our poems and work on making our poetry booklet. We will start (and possibly finish) book 3 of our novel. We will peer assess our country projects, and look at our next country comparison activity. In science we will start our slideshow research about a specific type of rock. Tuesday is also the Spring Concert. There is an afternoon show at 1 and an evening show at 6.

Going to be a busy week.  See you on Monday.

Hello!

This week in math we learned about adding and subtracting decimals. We learned how the decimal point needs to be placed first, to help organize the place values of the other numbers. Addition went well, though seems like some students still don’t have their subtractions strategies down.

In language arts we learned about two new types of poems: couples and limerick. Both poems use rhyming schemes and patterns. Students had a lot of fun coming up with some silly rhymes.

We also finished out poems from last week.

We finished off book 1 of our novel study, had a small book club review, and started book 2. By the end of the week it seems that some students event managed to finish book 2 as well.

In social studies we researched our countries history to create a timeline of the most important events. I have printed everyone’s work, so that next week we can draw pictures and assemble our books together.

In french we have been working on our All About Me posters. Almost all.pf the students were able to finish by Friday, so I can put them up in the hall for next week.

Next week we will review our fractions and decimals, and take a final test. We will finish book 2 and have our mini book club discussion. We will be having our grade 5 puberty talk sometime during the week, discussing the bodily changed that occur. We will learn about onomatopoeia, and how we can create poems using sounds. We will finish off our booklet about our country in social studies.  And finally we will review our rock cycle amd have a test. Going to be a busy week.

Have a good long weekend, and see you Tuesday.

Hello!

We had a busy one this week. Our Red Dress walk went well some students even made the news. It was a good learning experience for those who joined.

In math we had two quizzes! Seems like a lot, but they did well with them. The first was on turning fractions into decimals and decimals into fractions. Then we learned about decimal place value. Most seem to have gotten a good grasp of the concepts.

In language arts we finished off our animal haiku riddles. We then learned about cinquian poems, using more rules per line. We added both poems to our display board,  which I will post a picture when we are done.

We have also been working on a novel study this week. Students got to choose between either Island, Everest, or Dive as their novel. Most of the students have finished, with some needing time to finish Monday. We will then have a small book club on each story.

In social studies we worked on our country heritage booklets. Most students have finished their research, though many need to work on less copy and paste.

In French we learned about different preferences, such as adore, aime, n’aime pa’s, amd deteste. We started our outline for a French All About Me project which we will complete next week.

For art, we have been working on nail and string art. Students chose their theme and went at it. There were some nice ones in the end.

Next week we will learn about adding and subtracting decimals, start book 2 of our novel study, research our heritage country and make a timeline, learn about couplets amd limerick poetry, and review more of the rock cycle.  Going to be another busy week,  especially with no Monday.

Have a good weekend, amd see toy Tuesdays
