Hello!

We did it, we made it to winter break! The students were really feeling the energy by the end of the week.

I sent home their work packaged on Wednesday. Some students let me know if they wanted printed copies of their report cards. Let me know if you are also interested in one. Otherwise all grades are on MyEd. Try to get those folders back after the break.

This week we worked on finishing our social studies timeline, by looking at the Canadian railway and Residential school system. Students then created their own timeline of the 9 most important events they thoughts on for Canada.

Our White Elephant gift exchange was a lot of fun. Most students did pretty well with it, and after everyone opened their gift, there was a lot of trading.

We also made 3D snowflakes for art, large ones for the class, and small ones to take home.

Our pancake breakfast on Friday went well, with a lot of our students helping volunteer serve the food. After we played holiday music bingo, then watched Wall-E and had snacks and hot chocolate in the afternoon. It was a very tiring day.

When we come back in January, we will learn about division and remainders in math, write about our holiday in language arts,  learn about Rube goldberg machines for science, and start our government unit in social studies.

Hope everyone has a lovely two weeks off, and see you next year.

Hello!

We are one week away from the winter break. The students are getting a little antsy, especially with the rainy indoor days.

In math we finished off our multiplication unit with our final test.  Students did pretty well, where there has definitely been improvement among each. We also created our prodigy account, which students can access at home.

In social studies we decorated our tomeline posts and then went through the Canadian timeline, post by post. There were even some Canadian heritage minute videos to accompany some posts. Students then read a package on the Fur Trade, as well as Canada becomming a nation. They had to think of the causes and affects of these historical events.

We finished off our simple machines unit in science with a scavenger hunts around the school, as well as our final test. Most students did well, though some needed to add more details.

In language arts we typed up our favourite RAFTS project. Students needed to expand on their ideas a little more.

On Friday it was our turn for the Giving Store. It seems a lot of students made some good choices with their gifts.

Next week is our last week before the break. We will finish off social studies by learning about the railroad and residential schools system,  play some more French bingo,  make 3D snowflakes in art, and play more prodigy and math games. Friday will be the pancake breakfast and pajama day, and Thursday is the White Elephant gift exchange. Its going to be a busy week.

Have a good weekend, and see you next week.

Hello!

We are just wrapping up some of our final units before the winter break. Everyone is working hard to get their work done.

In math we learned about the standard algorithm for multiplication.  Most students did very well with it, though a couple forgot about adding the 0.

In language arts we wrote a couple more RAFTS activities.  Some students rewrote ‘let it go’ to include lyrics about breaking up with a boyfriend, some wrote about Godzilla destroying Tokyo, some wrote about Mr. Stephenson talking to Superman. It was entertaining.

In social studies we finished our timeline posts and typed them up. AI has made it pretty easy for students to get information,  though they need to start putting the information in their own words.

In science we learned about the wheel and axle, then spent the week making wind cars. We raced them on Friday, with some students getting over 5m.

There was a lot of problem solving going on.

In French we learned the numbers 1 through 75. We then played some French bingo. At first the students were very confused, but got the hang of it soon.

Next week we review multiplication and have a test, type up one of our RAFTS activities, organize the classroom timeline, and hunt for simple machines then take a final test. Going to be a busy week.

Have a good weekend, and see you next week.
