Hello!
Our first short week in a while. You could tell the students were needing one. Keep getting those field trip and young entrepreneur permission forms signed and brought back in.
In math we learned about different units of measurement, so mm, cm, m, km. We learned how to convert each unit into a different one, as well as which unit to use for specific situations (Vic to Dunca would need KM, while length of a building is M). Students also learned about length vs width, and on Thursday all about perimeter of shapes. Perimeter is where you add up the length of all the sides that surround a shape.
In science we learned about the skeletal and muscular system. We discussed the reasons we need bones, and different types bones. We then learned the type muscles, and how flexor and extensors work on pairs. We then made robot hands to mimic the hand.

In language arts we finished off our novel study. Looks like Charles got kicked out for being mean, the rest work together to escape through the side building dress shop. Seems like most students liked the book, we will see who takes our book 2 from the library.
In social studies we started looking into the political parties, this week Federal. We researched a party, their slogan, leader, logo, and 5 campaign promises. It was a little hard, not being an election, but students did well making their poster.

We went on Wednesday to Spencer to check out their music program. We watched some performances from the grade 6, then 7 and 8. They showcased some instruments, and did a dance performance. Some students seemed to show interest in joining next year. Parents should expect an email soon about applying.
Next week is another short one. We will review perimeter and learn about area in math, write up our synopsis from the novel study, learn about the nervous and urinary system, and research provincial political parties.
Have a good family weekend and see you Tuesday.
