Hello!
Wow we had a busy week, with two field trips and a bunch of tests.
Our trip on Tuesday to the curling rink went very well. On our walk we checked our Fan Tan alley. At curling the students learned the basics, then played some mini games.
Our trip on Thursday to the museum went well, though the excitement level was a little too much for the venue. Students were pretty engaged with all of the exhibits, learning lots about history.
In math we learned how to find area and perimeter of rectangles when there is missing information. So if we know the length is 6, and perimeter is 20. We know both lengths equal 12, so we need 8 more. Divide that by two sides, each side is 4. 6 x 4 is an area of 24. If we know the area is 30, and perimeter is 26, we find all the pairs that multiply to make 30 (30×1, 5×6, 10×3, 15×2). Then we add the sides and multiply by 2, if they equal the perimeter it is correct (10+3=13×2÷26).
We had a review session and mini quiz on voting in Canada and political parties. Students did pretty well with it, especially with the difference between each party.
In science we had had a review sessions and a final test on the human body. Currently marking it now, but it seems like the students did well.
We conducted our market research today with the other grade 5 students. We made surveys about our product, and asked others some questions. This will help us understand what the customer want. I have students take home their worksheet to be finished off for next week.
Next week we learn about money in math, finish our novel study book report in language arts, have a big review and final test on government in social studies, and create some human body cutout pictures in science. Going to be another busy week.
Have a good weekend and see you next week.
