Hello!

Its starting to get hot out.  We had a very busy week, with more to come.

In math we learned how to turn a fraction into a decimal, and a decimal into a fraction. We used our knowledge of equivalent fractions to convert 3/5 to 6/10, making it 0.6. We also talked about decimal place value to the thousandths,  so 0.5 and 0.50 are the same, and 0.7 is bigger than 0.693.

In language arts we learned about haiku and cinquain poems. We created some haiku riddles about animals.

We also created some cinquin poems.

We also fonished book 1 of the novel study series. Students on Friday had a mini book club to review and go over the novel.

In science we learned about the 3 types of rocks: sedimentary, igneous,  and metamorphic.  We learned how each rock is formed, and how the rock cycle takes thousands of years to change.

In social studies we have been working on our family heritage country booklets. Some students have theirs printed and are working on pictures,  while others are still researching.

We have started a nail string art project. It’ll take 2 weeks to finish. Students chose their own design.

On Thursday we did our dress rehearsal for next week’s spring concert. They sounded great. On Friday we did a mini track and field experience tryout day, so see who wants to represent Ruth King at the district track meet.

Next week we will hopefully get our track and field team organized. We have the spring concert on Tuesday, afternoon show is 1pm, night shownis 6pm. We will learn about decimal place value in math, couplet and limerick poems, start novel 2, finish the family heritage booklet, learn more about rocks with Science Venture coming in, and finish our string nail art. These weeks seem to keep getting busier…

Have a good weekend, and see you Monday.
