Hello!

Wow we sure had a hot one today. Best to start wearing sunscreen to school and bring a hat.

In language arts we learned about poem couplets, and made some nice rhyming poems

We also finished off the third book of our novel study trilogy. There were mixed reviews of the books, but overall it seemed like most enjoyed them.

In math we looked at decimal place value, and ordering decimals. We talked about how 3.5 is bigger than 3.497. We even had to think of numbers between 3.592 and 3.6.

In science we practiced our rock cycle again, and performed an experiment with making different rocks out of Starburst sediment.  We are still working on the igneous rock, hopefully it’ll be ready for Monday.

These last two weeks we have been working on string art. Lots of cool final products.

On Friday we did our Track and Field tryout day, and it seemed like a lot of students had fun. News should be coming out next week about the team.

Next week we will learn about another type of poem! In math we will look at adding decimals, in social studies we will compare Canada with other countries, in science we will have a quiz on the rock cycle,  and we will work on our novel study booklet. Going to be another busy week if we want to try and get these things done by Thursday.

Have a good weekend, and see you Monday.

Hello!

We had a pretty nice week, and the weather held out for our Red Dress walk on Friday. Check the local news to see if we made it.

In language arts we learned about limerick poetry, telling a short and funny story using rhyme and syllables.

We finished off our second book of our novel study, and did another book club review. Many good conversations, and some clarification for students who might have been a little confused of the events.

In math we learned how to change fractions to decimals, and decimals back to fractions. We found that turning fractions over 10, 100, and 1000 were pretty easy, but when they were over another number, such as 3/5, we needed to find an equivalent fractions 6/10, to convert it to 0.6.

In science we had Science Venture from Uvic come and teach us more about the rock cycle. They had students work on categorizing different rocks, researching types, and the mining and sale of minerals. They students were very engaged.

We have also been working on a string art project. By the end of the week half the students had finished nailing, and some were painted, we will finish that off Monday, and spend the week threading.

On Friday we took part in the Red Dress walk, to bring attention to the missing and murdered aboriginal women of BC and Canada. We had a good discussion, and did well at the ceremony at Veterans Memorial.

Next week the Spring Concert ticket order forms are due, so get those in. We will work on decimal place values,  finish our novel study with book 3, make some couplet poems,  and experiment with making different types of rocks.

Have a good weekend and see you Monday
