Hello!

Looks like I missed last week’s post. Baby life must have caught up to me on Friday.  Anyways, we had a very busy week, catching up, and finishing some projects.

In math this week we reviewed our whole numbers work: place value, rounding, addition, subtraction.  We took a final test on Friday, and it seems like everyone knows that they are doing.

In science we started looking at simple machines,  and this week focused on the inclined plane. We learned how the slope of the plane affects the amount of effort needed to move objects,  and we trade distance traveled for effort used to make work easier. We did a couple of experiments with spring guages to measure effort, and an egg drop vs roll.

In social studies we learned all about forestry. We discussed what we use forestry products for (building and ice cream?), and some harvesting methods. We specifically talked about clear cutting, and discussed the pros and cons of it.

In language arts we focused on Remembrance Day, with learning about and writing what we know and think about it. We also took part in a readers theater and poem during the ceremony.

We also finished off our Goosebumps novel study, getting those last copies in today. I will be reading over them this weekend to see what each student thought about their book.

In art we painted poppies for our display board.

Next week we start multiplication in math, where we will review three strategies for single digit multiplication: arrays, break up, and skip counting. In social studies and language arts we will be working on our resource booklet, finishing off our forestry project, starting our fishery project,  and looking at starting to write an essay on a controversial resource. In science we will explore and learn about lever and fulcrum, and make some catapults. And in french we will learn about the days and months.

No school Monday, so see you all Tuesday. Have a good long weekend.
