Hello!

Our first full week in a while, it was nice getting a fill 5 days in. We had the Halloween dance on Thirsday, and it sounds like it was a lot of fun. It was great tonsee so many students take part in twin day, though seems like no one took me up on my offer to shave their head to match me.

In math we started off with a quiz on standard form, expanded form, and word form. Most of the students did very well with the quiz. We then reviewed rounding and adding, played some games with it, and had another quiz. Again, most students did very well, and I worked with those who were still a little confused about rounding.

In language arts we started our own Goosebumps novel study.  Students are reading through, and recording the events and their predictions as they read 2 to 3 chapters at a time. A couple of students have finished, and are starting to write their synopsis.

In science we finished off our solutions unit with a jeopardy review game and final test. Many students did well with the test, while some mixed up either mixture and solutions, solute and solvents, dissolve or dilute,  or ways to separate a solution.

In social studies we started our natural resource unit by learning about renewable and non renewable resources. We then learned about the booklet we will be creating, showing our understanding of 4 of BC’s natural resources. This week we focused on energy resources: oil, natural gas, coal, solar, wind, and hydro. Students then created a mini project, sharing what they researched and learned.

In art we learned about Symmetry by creating pumpkins

We also started working on our home folders. These will be for transporting our work from school during reporting periods.

Next week in language arts we will learn about the origins of Halloween, review and finish off our grammar unit with a test, and hopefully finish off the Goosebumps books. In math we will continue our rounding work, but also review subtraction. In social studies we will look at minerals and mining as a resource,  and work on a new mini project.  In science we will start our simple machines unit, looking at the 6 types of simple machines that help make work easier. We will also be creating our Art Cards. Should be another good week, especially with Halloween on Tuesday!

Have a good weekend, and see you Monday.
