Hello!

We made it to December, and the countdown has started until the winter break. I have informed students about the White Elephant gift exchange, if you have any questions, let me know.

In math this week we learned about the standard algorithm with larger multiplication. Students were like ‘this is inpossible’ at first, but they are now pretty confident with 1 by 3 equations. We started 2 by 2 today, and about half of the students got it. We will be reviewing Monday and Tuesday, for a quiz on Wednesday.

In language arts I gave students a writing prompt: time machine, million dollars, vacation, or super power. Students wrote what they wanted, and then proofread their writing after. We also did a small proofreading quiz.

In science we learned about the wheel and axle, and spent most of the week building wind cars.

Students learned a lot about how wheels work, and what issues may cause them to not work properly. Writing will be having a competition on Monday.

In social studies we took a quiz in levels of government. Students reflected on their quiz, thinking about the importance of studying more. We then learned about different types of governments: democracy, oligarchy, and autocracy (monarchy and dictatorship). We also took part in a scenario, where if students were stranded on an island, what would they do. Their answers were interesting.

Next week we will finish up multiplication (for now), work on perspective writing, experience what different governments feel like, and finish off our simple machines unit with a scavenger hunt,  review, and quiz.

Friday is also our Christmas Store day, and a reminder will go home earlier in the week. Have a good weekend, and see you Monday.
