Hello!

We are now 1 week away from our winter break, and the students are pretty excited about it.

In math we worked on 2 by 2 digit multiplication, so 64×34, using the standard algorithm. We took a quiz and it seems about half got the strategy,  so we will review more next week. We also played Prodigy using our Google Learns accounts, which are available for home use as well.

In language arts we looked at perspective writing and role playing with RAFTS, where we wrote from the role of a specific person or thing, to a specific audience. One of my favourites was the pencil writing a love letter to an eraser.

This week we looked at different types of governments, with each day trying a different one. Monday was Direct Drcomcracy, where we votes on everything. Tuesday was oligarchy day, where our points rich students got their chance to try and make classroom students. Wednesday was my favorite with dictatorship day, where I was the dictator, students worked hard, and it was very quiet. Thursday was Mondarchy day, and our queen did such a good job that no one wanted to overthrow her. Friday students voted for others to represent them,  and they will lead for the next 3 days, with a relection on Tuesday. We also researched countries that used each government.

We finished up our simple machine work with a scavenger hunt, class review, and test. Most students did very well with their test. We will be working more on machines in January.

Friday we visited the Christmas Store, and it seems like everyone got their gifts. The Art cards went home today, and we put the pieces on our wall.

A reminder about the White Elephant gift exchange, to start bringing in the wrapped $5-10 gifts, if you are participating,  by Wednesday. Have a good weekend, and see you Monday.
