Hello!

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving weekend.

In math this week we started our whole number unit, learning about multiplication and division of large numbers with zeros. So when we multiplu 500 x 7000, we move the 0s over, and multiply what’s left, so move the 00 and 000, and then 5 x 7 is 35, and we get 3500000. With division we cross out zeroes, so 500000 divided by 1000, you cross three 0s on the 1000, then cross off three 0s on the 500000, to get 500.

In language arts we learned how to do mad libs, to help us practice using nouns, adjectives, verbs, and adverbs. We came up with some very silly fill in the blank paragraphs.

In science we learned more about mixtures and solutions. First we went through some experiments, mixing two ingredients together, and trying to separate them using a filter. Dirt and water is a mixture, while chocolate milk is a solution. We then looked at different liquid densities,  and attempted to make a rainbow in a bottle,  by dying liquids different colours, and layering them. None of the bottles became true rainbows, as our predictions were off, but one got pretty close.

We spent most of the week researching a specific Canadian region, and creating a brochure to show off its features.

Next week we will finish off regions with some review and a quiz, learn about saturation levels in science, place value and different forms (standard, expanded, word) of numbers in math, and completing a Goosebumps novel study. Going to be another busy week.

Have a good weekend, and see you Monday.
